Located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, The Wylder Hotel on Tilghman Island is a boutique hotel experience packed with nautical style & sea faring charm. The property pays homage to its roots as a boarding home for fishermen in the 1800s with its new-found polish and luxury additions. The waterfront hotel features 50 guest suites, phenomenal on-site dining, and an abundance of lush outdoor space and activities.
The drive to Tilghman Island is the perfect slow fade from whatever city you may be escaping from as the towns you travel through become increasingly full of old-world maritime charm. About 20 minutes before we arrived at the Wylder, we stopped to explore St. Michaels (which is right on route)! This iconic small town is packed with buzzy, homegrown shops, art galleries, and dining. You could easily spend an entire day here, adding further to the allure of a weekend at the Wylder if you are looking to keep a packed itinerary.
Next we were off to Tilghman to check in for our stay, the quiet island retreat is tucked just far enough away to feel private & close enough to town for convenience. Upon arrival, we were met with a balmy bay breeze and the Wylder’s friendly staff. Every inch of the hotel property, inside and out, stays true to its nautical chic décor – assuring you will never forget that you are on island time.
During our stay, we were booked in a ‘Queens Quarter Waterfront Room’ which had a fantastic view of the bay. Rooms at The Wylder are clean, cozy, and have all the essentials. What more can you ask for when you have a view this good? Another perk worth mentioning- This is a dog friendly stay!
The Hotel itself sits on 9 acres of lush waterfront property and features just about everything you could need for the perfect Island getaway. We visited the Wylder in the Winter so we spent most of our time enjoying the firepits scattered across the property, drinking maple old fashions at Bar Mumbo (also on-site), and eating exuberant amounts of fresh seafood from the hotels very own, Ticklers Crab Shack.
Speaking of the on-site dining… I have a lot to say about the food at Ticklers & that is because it was simply phenomenal. Typically dining at a hotel comes with its caveats, average food with a big price tag but that couldn’t be further from the truth at the Wylder Hotel. We were blown away by the creative dishes and fresh flavors- dining here is an experience all in its own. A few of our favorite dishes that you MUST try – The Oysters, Hushpuppies (to die for), & of course The Crab Dip (This is Maryland we’re talking about!). Brunch at Ticklers was equally noteworthy, We especially loved The French Toast!
If you visit during warmer months you can even dine outside at the crab shack on their waterfront deck! There is also a laundry list of additional on-site activities to enjoy during warmer seasons. To list a few, there’s a saltwater pool, a Bocce ball court, bikes available for guests to take out for a spin, kayaking, paddle boarding, sunset cruises – you get the point, they have EVERYTHING.
Overall, we left the Wylder after our stay feeling refreshed, relaxed, and of course teeming with excitement to book our return visit this Summer. For the perfect weekend escape from Washington DC, Philly, or Baltimore- Look no further, the Wylder definitely has what you’re looking for.
