Purcellville, Virginia is a small town located in the Western region of DC’s wine country, just 60 miles outside of Washington DC. While Purcellville is one of many scenic destinations to visit throughout Virginia’s Loudoun County, it’s known for its especially breathtaking views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains and scenic winding roads. Whether you come to Purcellville for the wineries and breweries, the colorful downtown, or for its outdoor adventures, you are sure to find something to fall in love with here. Here’s our guide to getting started in planning your Purcellville getaway based on a few of our favorite spots and experiences!
Start your day with a visit to Blooming Hill Lavender Farm :
Perched on a hill along the rolling meadows of Purcellville, you’ll find an enchanting flower farm awaiting your arrival. Blooming Hill Lavender Farm offers visitors a unique pick-your-own lavender experience on their picture perfect 4-acre property. Like something straight out of a fairytale, the grounds at Blooming Hill not only look, but also smell absolutely heavenly. Owners Cyndie and Peter Rinick are masterful in their attention to detail, the landscaping is truly beyond perfection.
Spend the afternoon relaxing on the farm and pick from nearly 100 varieties of lavender to take home the perfect bunch. Be sure to stop inside the gift shop on your way out for a cup of their homemade lavender ice cream (it is absolutely to die for).
Go for a Wine Tasting at Two Twisted Posts Winery :
It didn’t take us long to fall in love with Two Twisted Posts Winery upon pulling in to find the vineyard was decked out in rainbow flags in celebration of Pride month. This female owned winery is known for its award-winning chardonnays and its friendly, relaxed atmosphere. With plenty of space to spread out and relax this winery is the perfect place to escape the crowds and enjoy a wine tasting with friends and family. Among a sea of other wineries in the region – Two Twisted Posts stands out for its incredible wine paired perfectly with a non-stuffy, come as you are atmosphere (They’re dog friendly too!)
Check in to your stay for the night at Airwell Bed & Breakfast :
Located along the Scenic Snickerville Turnpike you’ll find your stay for the night, Airwell BnB is a traditional bed and breakfast styled stay situated on a beautiful countryside property. This historic 1860’s home, once owned by a famous landscape artist- Lucien Powell, has been lovingly renovated and reimagined into what is now this charming countryside retreat.
Airwell features 4 guest accommodations to choose from, 2 guest suites in the main home and 2 cottage stays on property. Accommodations are styled with an elegant country-chic aesthetic and each include luxurious en-suite bathrooms. During our stay we stayed in the Ashby Suite which featured a large bedroom with a cozy king size bed, as well as an attached sitting room with a lounge space and small dining table. We especially loved the suites luxurious bathroom, with its white marble finishings and modern spa features.
Once settled into your guest suite, guests can make themselves at home during their stay at Airwell, with plenty of private nooks and alcoves to discover. Outside, explore the 5 acres of lush gardens that blanket the grounds with wildflowers and hydrangeas, you’ll even find a hammock to hang on while taking in views of the Shenandoah’s which are situated perfectly on the horizon.
Stays at Airwell B&B are topped off with a scrumptious el fresco breakfast spread each morning. Pro Tip: request outdoor seating at breakfast for an especially magical morning experience complete with butterflies and bird songs. It really doesn’t get much better than that. Get to know downtown Purcellville :
Once you’ve settled into your stay at Airwell, its time to head into downtown Purcellville. This small, charming town is known for its historic frontier feel, step on to Main Street and feel instantly transported back in time. Check out local cafes, boutique shops, and thrift stores before heading over to Magnolias at the Mill for dinner. Located in the heart of downtown this restored grain mill turned popular eatery serves up locally sourced new Americana dishes. There is truly something for everyone here (the menu is huge and has a ton of variety)! Alternatively, choose to dine at Monks BBQ– a beloved spot by locals known for its fun atmosphere & amazing BBQ dishes.
