Cape Cod is an iconic New England getaway destination known for so many things, one of which being its thriving arts and culture scene. Walk down the Main Street of any of the Cape’s charming small towns and you’re bound to find a handful of local galleries and art studios. It’s no mystery why artists of all kinds flock to Cape Cod to create and sell their work as there is certainly no shortage of beauty to draw inspiration from. There are so many fantastic ways to experience this colorful and unique arts community during a getaway to Cape Cod. Here are a few ideas to get you started planning your visit!

Spend an afternoon at Heritage Museum and Gardens

One of the best hidden gems on Cape Cod this spot is a must see when visiting. With over 100 acres of lush gardens, walking trails & museums you could easily spend an entire day exploring Heritage Museum and Gardens and it’s many hidden gems! A few highlights & excellent photo ops to check out during a visit include the old east windmill , the beautiful flume fountain, the treehouse, and  the vintage carousel ( which you can ride! ) found inside the American Art Gallery! Be sure to  plan enough time in your visit to check out the museum exhibits and rotating art displays located on site as well! 

Visit the Cahoon Museum of American Art

Another fantastic hidden gem on the Cape, this museum has such a unique feel that is especially reflective of the artists of Cape Cod, both past and present. Housed inside an 18th century New England home, the galleries here are captivating and offer a memorable experience that feels unique to the Cape. Click here for more info on current exhibits!

Shop local at the Hyannis HyArts Artist Shanties

Meet local Cape Cod creatives and artisans at this colorful and unique waterfront marketplace! This fun shopping experience is packed with incredible artisans and many amazing finds to take home (so be sure to save some space in your suitcase)! Visit the Cape Cod Museum of Art

Similar to Cahoon, The Cape Cod Museum of Art is truly beautiful from the inside out and offers a ton of variety without being overwhelmingly large! Perfect for an afternoon stop, the museum features gorgeous rotating galleries inside and a beautiful outdoor sculpture gallery to explore as well! 

Catch live music at Harvest Bar and Gallery

Visit the Edward Gorey House

If you’re familiar with the work of American author and illustrator Edward Gorey, then paying a visit to the Edward Gorey house during your visit is an absolute must!
